North-South student mobility programs play an important role in the internationalisation and experimental learning of European higher
education institutions. However, often it remains underexposed or unclear how trainees can contribute positively and engage meaningfully
to local communities in complex societies. Furthermore, for host country partners and communities itself there remains a lack of clarity about
the added value of student mobility programs. Asymmetrical relations in terms of power and privileges influence the way in which partnerships
are formed, how the distribution of benefits is perceived and how systems of inequality may be strengthened.
This session will focus on the ethical challenges that arise within North-South mobility programs and propose principles to achieve mutually
beneficial and sustainable partnerships.
Traineeship in a country with a different culture, language and socio-economic context is quite challenging. The process of adapting to and
understanding local complexities is often underestimated. Fortunately there is an increasing focus on pre-departure trainings. However, little
attention is given to re-entry debriefing sessions and the re-adaptation upon return home. Research has shown that international mobility
programs do not always increase tolerance, but sometimes even strengthen prejudices. Critical reflection upon return is therefore essential,
framing possible disappointments, and valorising global citizenship competencies.
This session will focus on the challenge’s students face upon return, the importance of feedback moments, and provide practical tools and
content and for organising debriefing sessions yourself.

#travelingtolearn # learningtotravel are strong motivation purposes at Tenerife Job Training. TJT understands that an Erasmus student traveling
abroad means a huge challenge. Some of the students are brave enough but some others need help to face this opportunity. Maria Victoria Gracia,
chair of this session, wants to discuss if the assumption that university level students are mature enough to arrange everything by themselves is
always true. An important question is “why should we limit the option of going abroad only to those students brave enough to face these situations
on their own?”

• Universities, Trainees and the Industry – hindrances and realistic goals
The European Commission has published the main goals to be met for the next five years regarding traineeships in Higher Education, as well as in
Universities – Industry partnerships in general. Ana Cecilia Boa Ventura, chair of this session, argues that such targets are unrealistic, when
considered in the state and policy maker’s contexts. She identifies some of the main problems at the base of partnerships between Universities and
the Industry. She will also discuss the impact that those problems have on the trainee who is caught in the ‘line of fire’. Lastly a set of realistic
achievable goals for traineeships will be given.

Driven by exponential technological & digital growth and an exponential decrease of natural resources, the world is becoming a more complex
system than it has ever been. Economic and social systems will no longer follow the linear but a circular pattern. This new complex world requires
new entrepreneurial leaders equipped with the right skills to lead in this fast-changing environment.
Talents with vision, talents with passion, talents with an entrepreneurial mindset. Talents, not just focused on the outcome but exploring contexts,
valuing the process, experimenting and daring to fail. Talents with courage, believing in possibilities and valuing multiple perspectives.
Talents spirited to create sustainable economic and social systems.
We believe the future will be created by new generations. That’s why we are passionate about empowering young talents with innovative and
entrepreneurial skills, tools and mindsets.
In this session you will experience how ‘design thinking’ can help you to become this entrepreneurial leader that makes the difference for its
organization and its environment.
